The Story of Qe’ nek (KENNEC)
In the beginning… Wah-pec-wah-mow “The Creator” took a rope and began walking a great circle. When he returned to the beginning, he tied the two rope ends together and called that place Qe’ nek, “the Center of the World”. For many days he went back and forth over the hills, knotting the places where strands crossed until a great fishnet pattern emerged. Every strand became a path and every knot became a village, and this is how the people of the earth are connected.
Today if you were to ask the Yurok people of Northern California where Qe’ nek is, they would tell you to walk on the southwest side of the Klamath River, past the confluence of the Klamath and Trinity rivers, towards the great Pacific Ocean. There you will find Qe’ nek --the Center of the World. It is here, from the banks of the Klamath River, that Kennec Earth Engineering was born. In true Yurok tradition, it is our belief that the environment and all of the people of the earth are connected. We strive to work with the Peoples of the earth to bridge the value distance between today’s dominate western culture and the traditional sustainable beliefs of the Native Peoples. We are Earth Engineers and Scientists.
We have spent many years working with and for the largest environmental and civil engineering consulting firms in the world. Through those years we developed many relationships and partnerships that allow us to leverage other traditional corporate resources for specialized skills and abilities across a breadth of expertise. This allows us to bring to our clients, the best engineering and scientific skills without the traditional corporate mind set.
Life is full of choices… we choose to work with and for the People of the Earth -we are the Earth’s Engineers and Scientists.
