The California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) with the help of KENNEC and Dr. Dana Humphrey are implementing Tire Derived Aggregate (TDA) applications in
California
(download brochure). Current Projects involving the use of recycled tires are retaining wall construction in
Riverside
California
, and slide repairs in Humboldt, Mendocino, and
Sonoma
Counties
. From the community of Kneeland in
Humboldt
County
to the city of
Riverside
, Kennec Earth Engineering is providing Design and Geotechnical services, construction management, Internet based Information and education, and coordination efforts to the Board for their program and during the projects.
KENNEC proudly helped coordinate and manage the construction of the most recent retaining wall TDA project in
Riverside
County
, Wall 207. KENNEC worked with Dr. Humphrey, the CIWMB, and CalTrans to complete this project. Included in the project was installation of various sensors in the wall that are continuously monitoring and recording data, which is then downloaded via telemetry. With the completion of our Internet based information/education project, we will be able to view the data from this and other projects online, in "real time".

KENNEC continues to speak at APWA lunches, conferences, and other Geotechnical/Civil Engineering venues around the state to help share the valuable information about TDA and the CIWMB Civil Engineering Applications program.

The CIWMB in Conjunction with the Local Caltrans Regions, Cities, and Counties sponsor 2-6 hour short courses coordinated by KENNEC, and taught by the worlds leading authority on Tire Derived Aggregate, Dr. Dana Humphrey, Ph.D., P.E. Dean of the school of civil engineering at the
University
of
Maine

KENNEC COMPLETES DESIGN
AND
CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT OF
CALIFORNIAS
FIRST LANDSLIDE REPAIR USING TDA!
In September of 2007, the CIWMB in partnership with the Mendocino County of Public Works, successfully completed the first TDA slide repair project in
California
. The completed section of Marina Drive will no longer be a yearly maintenance cost and pending road failure for the county. KENNEC participated by developing the design and performing the Construction management of the project. This type of design is unique for
California
and holds promise as a new cost effective technique for permanently repairing road failures in the
California
hills.
